Colon Hydrotherapy

Gentle, restorative care to help your body feel lighter, clearer, and more balanced from the inside out.

Why gut health matters.

Often called the body’s “second brain,” the gut plays a vital role in more than just digestion. It helps your body absorb nutrients, eliminate toxins, and maintain emotional balance. In fact, about 90% of serotonin—a key hormone for mood, sleep, and digestion—is produced in the gut.

When your digestive system becomes sluggish or overwhelmed, your body may struggle to detoxify effectively. This can lead to inflammation, fatigue, brain fog, skin changes, low immunity, and emotional distress. You might feel bloated, anxious, more prone to illness, or simply off.

Nurturing your digestion is a loving, restorative step toward whole-body wellness, and colon hydrotherapy can help support that process from the inside out.

What Is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Colon hydrotherapy, also known as colonic irrigation, is a gentle cleansing process that uses temperature- and pressure-regulated, triple-filtered water to hydrate and flush the colon. The goal is to support healthy elimination, reduce toxic buildup, and help the digestive system function more effectively.

During a session, water is slowly and comfortably infused into the colon through a small, single-use tube while you rest on a padded table. Waste is released through a closed system, meaning there is no odor or mess. The process is quiet, calming, and fully guided by your therapist.

How Is Colon Hydrotherapy Different from a Laxative or Enema?

Unlike laxatives, which often stimulate the bowels chemically and can lead to dehydration or dependency, colon hydrotherapy uses water only. This provides a more thorough cleanse without irritating the system.

Enemas typically only reach the lower part of the colon and are generally used for temporary relief. Colon hydrotherapy can reach the entire length of the colon and is designed to gently rehydrate and encourage natural muscle movement (peristalsis), supporting long-term digestive wellness.

Is colon hydrotherapy safe?

When performed by a trained professional, colon hydrotherapy is considered safe for most healthy individuals. At Release and Renew Gut Health and Cleansing, sessions are provided by a therapist with advanced training in gut health and over 20 years of experience in clinical care.

Hydrotherapy is not recommended for everyone. You will receive a consultation beforehand to ensure the therapy is appropriate for your current health status.

How will I feel after a session?

Everyone responds differently. Some people feel lighter, more energized, and experience relief from bloating or sluggish digestion. Others may feel tired or need time to rest. Hydration, light meals, and gentle movement are typically encouraged post-session.

How should I prepare for a colon hydrotherapy session?

  • Hydrate well the day before and day of your session

  • Eat light, nourishing meals 24 hours before your appointment

  • Avoid heavy, greasy, or processed foods

  • Refrain from alcohol and caffeine

  • Arrive with an open mind and comfortable clothing.

More detailed prep instructions will be provided during your consultation.

Understanding Colon Hydrotherapy Contraindications

Colon hydrotherapy is not recommended for individuals who:

  • Are pregnant

  • Have active gastrointestinal bleeding or severe hemorrhoids

  • Have had recent colon surgery

  • Have uncontrolled high blood pressure or heart/kidney conditions

  • Have been diagnosed with diverticulitis, Crohn's disease, or ulcerative colitis (in flare)

A full medical history will be reviewed before scheduling.

Does Colon Hydrotherapy Flush Out Good Bacteria?

A common concern is whether the treatment removes beneficial gut bacteria. While colon hydrotherapy may flush both waste and bacteria, it can also create an environment that supports the reestablishment of healthy flora. Eating fiber-rich foods and/or taking a quality probiotic after treatment can help rebalance gut microbiota.

Aftercare Tips to Support Your Results

To help your body feel its best after your session, here are a few gentle recommendations:

Keep Hydrating

  • Drink plenty of fluids—especially water, herbal teas, and drinks with natural electrolytes.

  • Probiotic drinks like kefir can also be a great choice to support your gut.

Eat Light and Nourishing Foods

  • Stick with easy-to-digest meals for the first day—think warm soups, cooked veggies, and simple fruits like bananas or mango.

  • Limit heavy or greasy foods and ease up on meat for a few days.

Support Your Gut Flora

  • Adding a probiotic (either as a supplement or in fermented foods) can help replenish your healthy gut bacteria.

Consider a Follow-Up

  • If this was your first session, it’s often recommended to come back within a week. A series of three sessions close together can offer the most noticeable shift.
